Increased Laboratory Capacity in a Greenfield Project

The customer faced the need for additional laboratory capacity as part of a larger expansion of its production and laboratory facilities. This placed significant demands on the overall solution. The new facilities were required to operate in a regulated environment where compliance, documentation, and quality are critical. The solution therefore needed to be robust, reliable, and compliant without compromising operational flexibility.

A key requirement was that the solution should not only address immediate needs but also be designed with the future in mind. The setup needed to be future-proof, easy to maintain, and scalable to support the customer’s continued development.

Complete BMS and VDS Implementation

Eltronic delivered a complete BMS and VDS implementation for the new laboratory facilities, covering the entire process—from design and installation to programming, testing, and handover.

The delivery included:

  • Complete BMS and VDS implementation, including associated utilities
  • PLC and SCADA programming based on open standards
  • Manufacturing and delivery of electrical panels, complete installation, and cabling
  • Integration of third-party equipment
  • Validation, testing, and documentation with a focus on compliance
  • Technical consultancy and version control throughout the project

A key component of the solution was the integration of a new SCADA system built on open and standardized technologies. An important aspect was designing the system so that the customer could independently manage operations and maintenance after project completion.

By using standard libraries, standard components, and control modules, the solution became more consistent and easier to maintain. This supports more efficient day-to-day operations, reduces complexity, and creates a more robust platform that is easier to develop and scale over time.

“When expanding laboratory facilities in a regulated environment, it is essential that the solution is compliant, reliable, and economically sustainable in the long term. Our focus has been on creating an open and future-proof system that the customer can operate independently—without compromising quality or flexibility.”
Leif Hansen, Project Manager, Eltronic A/S.

In addition to the technical delivery, Eltronic acted as a proactive technical advisor in a project with many interfaces and continuous adjustments—maintaining a strong focus on alignment, progress, and quality throughout. The project was carried out as a partnership with shared responsibility for achieving a successful outcome, even when requirements changed and deviations arose along the way.

Stable and Future-Proof Laboratory Environment

The overall solution provided the customer with a stable and future-ready laboratory environment with several key benefits:

  • Expanded laboratory facilities with high operational reliability
  • Full VDS monitoring of laboratory areas with flexible zoning capabilities
  • Secured utility supply through backup generator systems
  • An open and standardized system enabling the customer to handle operations and maintenance internally
  • A scalable solution prepared for future expansion

The project also achieved an important milestone when the facility obtained the required regulatory approval, enabling the customer to put the facilities into operation and realize the value of the investment.

A True Partnership

The project was executed in close collaboration between the customer, Eltronic, and other stakeholders on site. Given the high level of technical complexity and numerous dependencies, open communication, continuous coordination, and a trust-based partnership were critical to maintaining progress.

Eltronic’s strong on-site presence made it possible to quickly handle deviations, resolve challenges, and adapt the solution as the project evolved. The customer was continuously involved throughout implementation, creating transparency and shared ownership of both the solutions and project progress.

The project demonstrates Eltronic’s ability to combine deep technical expertise in BMS and SCADA with a strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry’s regulatory requirements—while also acting as a valuable technical partner throughout the entire process.

“It is a partnership where we take responsibility and go all the way together with the customer, even when the project becomes challenging and deviates from expectations.”
